Mets May Sign Rubén Sierra
Rubén Sierra
Rubén Sierra
Will Rubén Sierra make a comeback again, but this time as of a member of Los Mets? The New York Times Murray Chass writes that the Mets may offer Rubén a minor league contract.

Last year, injuries limited Sierra to 14 of the 74 games the Twins played while he was on their roster.

If Sierra can demonstrate an ability to hit in the coming season, he could join Omar Minaya’s collection of aging, if not aged, players. Earlier this off-season, Minaya, the Mets’ general manager, signed the 40-year-old Moises Alou to play left field for a club that has a 48-year-old utility player, Julio Franco, and two 40-plus pitchers, Tom Glavine and Orlando Hernández.

Hey Omar Minaya, what is wrong signing a non-Latin player under the age of 29?

Jorge Sosa: Mets Close in on Deal
The sides are reportedly close to a one-year deal, worth $1.25 million.

The Mets would be counting on Sosa to fill a spot in the back end of their rotation, while hoping he can re-capture his 2005 form when he went 13-3 with a 2.55 ERA for the Braves.

Willie Randolph and the Mets are still discussing a contract extension. GM Omar Minaya said he would like to have one in place by the start of the season.

Pedro Martinez
Will you shut up already you bitch Pedro!
Pedro Martinez promised he won't rush his return from shoulder surgery. Martinez missed the playoffs last season with a torn right rotator cuff and a left calf injury. He could begin throwing again in March, and he's expected back on the mound in July or August.

"My timetable will be the exact one that the doctor predicted," Martinez said Wednesday at the Mets' voluntary minicamp in Port St. Lucie, Fla. "Like I said before, I'm not going to try to be overaggressive and risk anything.

I'll do what they told me to do and I'll try to come back fine -- not only for a year or two, but for the rest of my career."

Mets, DiFelice agree to minor league deal
Mike DiFelice who looks like either an escapee from Wards Island or a convict on Prison Break resigned with the Mets again. Maybe Pedro Martinez needed somebody to play catch with in Florida when the season begins. Mike DiFelice hit a solid .080 last season, that's 2-25 with 10K's in 30 plate appearances.  Yahoo Sports

Mike DiFelice
Duaner Sanchez
Duaner Sanchez is back with the Mets for another season stellar relief piching and bad taxi experiences.

Sanchez was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on January 4 last year, and the 27-year-old right-hander went 5-1 with 2.60 ERA in 49 relief appearances.

Mets, Newhan agree to 1-year deal
The New York Mets and reserve outfielder David Newhan agreed to a one-year contract Friday.

Newhan was limited to 39 games last season with the Baltimore Orioles after breaking his right leg while stealing second base on April 17 against the Los Angeles Angels.

He batted .252 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 131 at-bats. My only question is, who in the hell is this guy and why do we need him?  Yahoo Sports

A's likely to acquire Milledge
Lastings Milledge
Proscept or Suspect?
The Oakland Athletics, having already lost Frank Thomas, Jay Payton and Ken Macha, are likely to also dispatch their winningest pitcher, Joe Blanton, to the New York Mets as part of a deal that would fetch one of GM Billy Beane's longest-held desirables, outfielder Lastings Milledge.

So if the Mets trade this prized prospect for nothing, will become another Amos Otis or Ken Singleton.

Mets should hang on to Milledge because Moises Alou is a downgrade, just an older replacement for Cliff Floyd. He will be needed. Yahoo Sports
