Lastings Milledge
Lastings Milledge
Alay Soler threw 95 pitches in five innings with three walks and two wild pitches. Soler stepped in dogshit before the game as fans walked their mutts around the warning track. Soler then pitched like shit.

Lastings Milledge got his first major league hit, a double leading off the seventh. To make room for Milledge on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred RHP Brian Bannister (strained hamstring) to the 60-day disabled list.

The Mets signed veteran C Mike DiFelice and OF Jacob Cruz to minor league contracts. Jerry Grote declined the Mets offer to return to the club because he considering offers from the Astros, Red Sox and Yankees first.

The New York Post's Brian Costello interviewed Dwight Gooden in a Florida prison. The 1985 Cy Young winner is serving his first extended jail time after violating probation by using cocaine in March.

Aaron Heilman
Aaron Heilman

Aaron Heilman, whose ERA has ballooned from 1.42 to 3.03 since May 23, and allowed the first homer in 23 appearances this season.

When Kaz Matsui comes to the plate with runners in scoring position, do you pray for a wild pitch?

The start of the game was delayed 39 minutes by rain and play was delayed again for 51 minutes after the second inning.

Paul Lo Duca's four hits and extended his hitting streak to 13 games, longest for the Mets this season.

May 29, 2006
The Mets plan to use their backup second basemen more rather than Kazuo Matsui all the time, writes Mark Hale.

Tomorrow night, the Mets host Dog Day at Shea Stadium.

May 28, 2006
Mets Catcher Paul Lo Duca extended his hitting streak to 12 with a single in the fourth.

May 27, 2006
Mets Third Baseman David Wright, who missed Friday's game with back spasms, is expected to play tomorrow.

Catcher Paul Lo Duca and 1B Carlos Delgado returned to Dolphin Stadium for the first time since being traded from the Marlins after last season.

May 26, 2006
Mets acquire right-handed pitcher Mike Adams in exchange for righthanded pitcher Jeremi Gonzalez. Adams will join Norfolk (AAA) of the International League.

Yesterday before the Mets loss to the Phillies, Pedro Martinez signed autographs for fans doing some in between starts throwing. Assisted by several security guards who took items from fans to bring to Pedro who signed balls and hats about fifteen feet away from acme ridden screaming teenagers and pushy fathers with mulents using their kids as decoys to get items to sell on EBAY.

Will Rick Down survive the season with the recent offensive nose dive the Met bats have suffered.

May 25, 2006
WFAN and the Mets lost their minds and let afternoon sports talk show hosts Mike Francesa and Christopher ÒMad DogÓ Russo do the play by play of the Phillies-Mets game. Many people had to turn off their radios. Awful! Bob Murphy and Lindsey Nelson were heard screaming from the afterworld. When announced they were doing the radio broadcast over the PA system at Shea, Met fans booed loudly. A joint donation of $30,000 between the Mets, Francesa and Russo will benefit the Queensbridge Houses baseball league, New York Families for Autistic Children, Inc., South Queens Boys & Girls Club and Publicolor.
Dave Williams
Dave Williams

In more Mets news, they traded for another pitcher, acquiring Dave Williams from the Cincinnati Reds for minor league rightly Robert Manuel. In his eight starts this season, Williams is 2-3 with a 7.20 ERA.

Mets acquire Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez for Jorge Julio. El Duque, the 36-year-old Cuban defector, who began his Major League career in 1998 and who brings a 72-53 career record with him.

From the New York Daily News Adam Rubin, Tampa Bay's official press release is consumed with Scott Kazmir. Adam, you are so cruel. Thanks!

Kazmir Fan
Anyone hate Rick Peterson?
It was the longest game the Mets had played since June 16, 1995, versus Houston in a 7-5 loss. The 5-hour, 22-minute marathon that was the longest game in the major leagues this season.

Who would played catcher after Castro pinch-hitted ib the 12th? Take a guess?

That fan who showed off a New York Mets Scott Kazmir jersey on Sunday night appeared again on Tuesday.

Julio Franco, appearing in his 2,400th major league game, delivered a pinch double against reliever Aaron Fultz, scoring Matsui.

982 and counting: The Yankees-Mets weekend series was one of distinction for this season: Pedro Martinez, who has 202 career victories, Tom Glavine (282), Mike Mussina (230) and Randy Johnson (268) started. No other series in history had four pitchers each with at least 200 career victories.

It's a long story: The estimated distance covered by the mammoth home run David Wright hit against Aaron Small on Sunday night was 445 feet and prompted thoughts of two other home runs hit beyond the visitors' bullpen -- one by Mike Piazza and one by Dave Kingman. Piazza hit a three-run home run off Ramiro Mendoza of the Yankees on July 19, 1999. It struck the blue-and-white striped tent beyond the bullpen and was estimated at 470 feet. It gave the Mets a 7-6 lead in the seventh inning of a game they won, 9-8.

Kingman hit his on August 25, 1971, as a member of the Giants. The fifth home run of his career -- he made his debut July 30 of that year -- produced the lone run Jerry Koosman surrendered in a complete game victory. Its distance was estimated at 460 feet.

Cow-Breath Man
Cow-Breath Man
Carlos Delgado was siging autographs at Macy's during fashion event writes Daily News Michael Obernauer.

Spotted at the Mets Clubhouse Store on 42nd Street was self-imposed Mets eyesore, Cow-Bell Man. Dressed in his Mets jersey and cowbell (correct spelling, someone should tell his name is misspelled on his jersey) headed to the Delgado signing at Macy's. Get a life! With that breath, he should be Cow Breath Man.

Mets broadcaster Howie Rose came up with a winner during Friday nights broadcast on WFAN. Many teams were playing their natural rival and Howie was giving the out of town scoreboard. Rose stated "The Los Angles Angels of Anaheim were playing the Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles." Classic!

Top prospect Lastings Milledge is quickly becoming the most unpopular player in the International League. Milledge (.277, three homers, eight steals) instigated a bench-clearing incident Sunday at Triple-A Norfolk with a spikes-up slide that made a four-inch tear in the upper thigh portion of Jonathan Schuerholz's pants. The Richmond third baseman is the son of Braves GM John Schuerholz.

Second baseman Anderson Hernandez completed his minor-league rehab assignment and was officially placed on Norfolk's roster. Reliever Anderson Garcia also was demoted to the Tides, clearing room for Soler.

Pitching matchup for tonight
NYM: Steve Trachsel (2-4, 4.33 ERA)
Trachsel has struck out Bobby Abreu and Pat Burrell a combined 29 times in 107 at-bats.

PHI: Gavin Floyd (4-2, 5.71 ERA)
Floyd has faced the Mets three times in his short professional career, starting two of them. He owns a 2-0 record against them with a 5.40 ERA and eight strikeouts.

Alay Soler
Alay Soler
The Mets and Yankees meet again in the Bronx from June 30 to July 2.

Righthander Alay Soler should make his debut Wednesday against the Phillies writes the Daily News Adam Rubin.

"Does a one-legged duck swim in circles?" said some Met from Charlottesville, Va.

Cliff Floyd left before the eighth with discomfort in his left shoulder, but expects to play Tuesday when the Mets open a three-game series at home against Philadelphia.

Scott Kazmir allowed four hits and matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts in eight innings Sunday, leading the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 3-0 victory over the Florida Marlins. Thanks Rick Peterson!

A fan on Sunday night showed off a New York Mets Scott Kazmir jersey with the number 26. Kazmir switched to 26 this season after wearing 57 the past seasons in Tampa Bay.

The Mets looked great in the traditional blue pinstripes last night. This team should of laid a can of whoop ass on this beat up old Yankee teams.

May 21, 2006
The Subway Series brings out star power: Charlie Daniels sang the national anthem,

Tim Robbins threw out the first ball and Bill O'Reilly stood near the Yankees' dugout.

Delgado has 124 RBIs in interleague play, more than anyone else.

May 20, 2006
Mrs. Lima
Mrs. Lima
Mets RHP Jose Lima, who had an 8.79 ERA in three starts, was designated for assignment after the game, and replaced by RHP Anderson Garcia. Can Mrs. Lima stay?

Heilman shines again! Aaron looked great with three scoreless of relief on Friday. Great argument why to leave him in the bullpen.

Friday night's attendance of 56,289 was the seventh-largest crowd in Shea Stadium's history and the largest versus the Yankees. The previous high was 55,953 on May 22, 2005.

May 19, 2006
Brian Bannister had pulled himself out of his rehab start for the Triple-A Tides after throwing just five pitches due to continuing tightness in his right hamstring. Looks like we are stuck with Lima, maybe we could sign Al Leiter, Bret Saberhagen or Anthony Young.

Bartolome Fortunato, obtained with Victor Zambrano in the Scott Kazmir trade, has decided to put off Tommy John elbow surgery to get a second opinion. Our opinion is the trade should never been been made.

Carlos Beltran has five homers and 13 RBIs in his last 12 games. Too bad no one else on the team can hit.

May 18, 2006
Trachsel retired the side in order in the first inning for the first time all season, then followed with a perfect second. He had no perfect innings in his three previous starts.

Trachsel is 9-9 for his career against the Cardinals, but hasn't beaten them since Sept. 22, 1999, when he was with the Cubs.

The Mets last 1-0 defeat was Sept. 19, 2004, at Pittsburgh, one of three 1-0 losses that season.

May 17, 2006
Glavine has 2,397 strikeouts, one ahead of Koufax, and is four behind Dennis Eckersley.

Jose Reyes was picked off in the first but stole his 14th base without a throw in the seventh.

Scott Kazmir allowed just one earned run and five hits in seven innings in Tuesday's game against the White Sox, allowing two walks and striking out eight batters. He improved to 6-2 while lowering his ERA to 2.73.

May 16, 2006
OH NO! Instead of rushing rookie Brian Bannister back from the 15-day disabled list, the New York Mets will give Jose Lima another start on Thursday.

Former Mets catcher Mike Piazza still insists, "I am not gay!"

May 15, 2006
Brian Bannister threw 83 pitches Saturday in a simulated game in Port St. Lucie, Fla., where the rookie RHP has been rehabbing. Willie Randolph said Bannister may be called up as early as Thursday to replace Jose Lima, who has been ineffective in two starts, depending on how Bannister's injury responds from the session.

David Wright erratic play at the third base in the late innings has been a problem. He looks like Joe Foy or Richie Hebner out there lately.

Mike Pelfrey pitched his fourth game for Double-A Binghamton yesterday, giving up three runs in five innings, while allowing seven hits and five walks. He struck out three

Willie Randolph started Jose Valentin in left both games; Valentin had four RBIs Saturday and cracked a two-run double in the second inning yesterday. Floyd is obviously better, but Valentin's six RBIs over the last two days match Floyd's total over his last 18 games.

Cliff Floyd came into the game in the ninth inning on a double switch, with Valentin shifting to right. He struck out looking in his at-bat to drop his average to .195. Randolph said Floyd would play tomorrow in St. Louis.

May 14, 2006
Delgado's 382nd home run tied him for 51st place on the career list with Jim Rice and Frank Howard. Larry Walker is next with 383.

May 13, 2006
The Mets optioned reliever Heath Bell to Triple-A Norfolk after the game to make room for Jeremi Gonzalez.

May 12, 2006
Mets manager Willie Randolph moved struggling LF Cliff Floyd to second in the batting order. He went 0-for-3 and his average dropped to .186. As Mark Hale writes... Second's No Better For Slumping Floyd

The Mets streak of homering in 14 straight games ended.

Ira Berkow writes that Mike Pelfrey's Live Arm Puts him on Mets' Fast Track

Unbelievable: Will He Pitch to Bonds To?
Al Downing
Al Downing in his prime with the Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed former big league pitcher Al Downing to a to a weekend contract. Downing, 64, who has not pitched in the big leagues since 1977, surrendered Hank Aaron 715 career home run in 1974.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti thought it would be cool to have Downing face Bonds in certain match-ups. "Al has been getting his fastball up to 54 mph and we hope by this weekend series' it will top out at 60. He has great command and change of speeds." said Colletti. The lefthander went 123-107 in 17 big league seasons with the Yankees, A's, Brewers and Dodgers.

Met GM Omar Minaya originally expressed interest in Downing when Victor Zambrano was injured. "He would be a great addition for us out of the bullpen and a spot starter! He can't be any worse than Kaz Ishii was for us last season" Minaya stated through an interpreter. Minaya has his eyes on former Mets Anthony Young, Ron Darling and Harry Parker as possible fifth starters.  Meet the Mess

May 11, 2006
Tom Glavine became the 38th pitcher to reach 4,000 career innings on the mound.

Willie Randolph said he will switch the rotation for this weekend's series at Milwaukee. RHP Jose Lima will now pitch Friday and RHP Jeremi Gonzalez will pitch Saturday. We are really screwed.

May 10, 2006
The Mets called up RHP Heath Bell from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned RHP Bartolome Fortunato to Norfolk.
Thank God! He was sent to Norfolk only because they couldn't option him to Devil's Island or Alcatraz.
Fortunato really sucked on Sunday against the Braves.

Pedro Martinez has 106 double-digit strikeout games. He has two this season.

New York's Julio Franco was ejected from the on-deck circle in the ninth inning for arguing with plate umpire Doug Eddings on the called third strike that got Matzui. "It what was a horrible call," Franco said. "It changed the whole outcome of the game. He made the mistake, I didn't and I have to pay for it."
I wonder if Franco is now the oldest player to be ejected from a game?

Tom Glavine and the Mets have restructured his contract, delaying some payments and adding an option for 2007.

May 9, 2006
No suicides were reported in the Mets camp, so that means Jose Lima will have to pitch again for the Mets.

May 8, 2006
Jose Lima
Jose Lima
New York right-hander Victor Zambrano will miss the rest of the season after the Mets placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a torn tendon in his pitching elbow.

Jose Lima, who was called up from Norfolk before the game, gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings. He pitched for the cycle, he also hit a batter, threw a wild pitch and balked.

May 7, 2006
Mets starter Victor Zambrano after just four batters when Zambrano experienced discomfort in his right elbow. Scott Kazmir was heard applauding in Tampa. Zambrano grimaced in pain after throwing his 21st pitch in Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Manager Willie Randolph and trainer Ray Ramirez came to the mound to check on Zambrano, who remained in the game. However, two pitches later, after a strikeout of Andruw Jones for the first out of the second inning, Zambrano ran from the mound to the dugout.

May 6, 2006
Jose Reyes' five hits marked the 26th time a Mets player has had five hits in a game.

Duaner Sanchez pitched two scoreless innings, stretching his scoreless streak to 21 innings.

Mets disabled list report: 2B Anderson Hernandez (disc) has started playing in the Gulf Coast League.

RHP Brian Bannister (hamstring) has begun long toss regimen.

May 5, 2006
1B Julio Franco made his first start of the season for the Mets and went 0-for-4. He is the oldest player in Met history to go 0-4.

Tom Glavine's second-inning single was his fourth hit of the season in nine at-bats.

May 4, 2006
Duaner Sanchez
Duaner Sanchez
Pedro Martinez won his first eight starts with Montreal in 1997 en route to the first of his three Cy Young Awards, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez threw a hitless 10th, extending his scoreless streak to 21 innings dating to last year with the Dodgers -- including 18 this year.

May 3, 2006
Willie Randolph was ejected for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

John Maine (0-1) lost his Mets debut, giving up four runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings.

May 2, 2006
John Maine
John Maine
Mets RHP John Maine was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Tuesday night's game against the Nationals in place of the injured Brian Bannister. It will be the first appearance with the Mets for Maine, who was acquired along with Jorge Julio in the offseason deal that sent Kris Benson to Baltimore.

OF Victor Diaz was optioned to Norfolk. I thought this guy was suppose to be the next Manny Ramirez! Not Manny Martinez.

Before the game a taped tribute was shown on the Shea Stadium video board highlighting the career of Franco, who became the oldest player in major league history to hit a home run when he accomplished the feat against San Diego on April 20. The video was set to Bob Dylan's "Forever Young." Franco fell asleep during tribute.

It was Willie Randolph's 100th career win as a manager.

May 1, 2006
The Mets dropped to 22-52 at Turner Field and have never swept a series at the Braves' home of the last 10 seasons.
