Mets introduce Minaya as new GM
September 30, 2004 - Looking to bring a sense of stability to the organization's hierarchy, Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon introduced Omar Minaya as the club's executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Thursday afternoon at Shea Stadium.


Mets drop finale to Braves
September 30, 2004 - Aaron Heilman pitched into the seventh inning on Wednesday afternoon before tiring as the Braves picked up a 6-3 victory before 22,000 fans. Heilman went 6 1/3 innings, allowing six runs, though four of those came in the seventh inning.
Piazza hits No. 378, but Mets fall
September 21, 2004 - Al Leiter struggled with pitch counts and putting batters on once again. And, as it has in the past, Leiter's inefficiency hurt him as the Expos defeated the Mets, 6-1, to pull within a game of fourth place in the National League East.
Zeile reaches 2,000-hit milestone
September 19, 2004 - Veteran Todd Zeile on Sunday connected for his 2,000th career hit much in the same way he picked up his first: with a line drive up the middle.
Zeile behind plate one last time
September 16, 2004 - Todd Zeile, who hasn't played catcher since Sept. 1, 1990, will make one final start behind the plate Saturday in Pittsburgh, with Tom Glavine on the mound.
Kaz Matsui moving to second
September 15, 2004 - The Mets' front office has danced around the issue of Kaz Matsui switching to second base next season for the better part of a month, never saying definitively that he would be moving over to the right side of the infield.
Howe's status remains uncertain
September 14, 2004 - The uncertainty surrounding Art Howe's status as Mets manager grew on Tuesday despite his having a face-to-face meeting with principle owner Fred Wilpon and general manager Jim Duquette at Shea Stadium.
Howe won't be back for 2005
September 13, 2004 - The New York Daily News reported on Monday that Fred Wilpon, the team's principle owner, has been persuaded by his baseball people to relieve Howe of his duties at season's end. Mets vice president for media relations Jay Horwitz said that the club had no comment on the story.
Glavine absorbs loss in finale
September 12, 2004 - Glavine wound up on the losing side of the ledger again on Sunday as the Mets dropped a 4-2 decision to Philadelphia before 23,391 fans at Shea Stadium.
Leiter not sharp as Mets fall
September 10, 2004 - Jason Michaels lined a two-run homer just over the wall in left off Ricky Bottalico in the seventh inning to lead the Phils to a 9-5 victory before 27,827 fans at Shea Stadium.
Howe calls another team meeting
September 4, 2004 - Art Howe pulled his veterans together for a meeting Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, the second time in eight days he has initiated such a gathering, hopeful of providing his team with the spark that would snap the club out of its malaise.
