Night 'Leit' doesn't work for Mets
The Braves roughed up Al Leiter for five runs over four innings and cruised to a 5-2 victory against New York.
The loss was the sixth in a row for the Mets and the seventh in eight games.
It marks the third time this season New York has had a losing streak of six or more games.

Mets drop first game of DH
The Mets dropped their fourth straight game on Friday as the Atlanta Braves won, 3-1, the first game of a twi-night doubleheader at Shea Stadium.
John Thomson took the loss for the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings pitched.

Astacio, Mets fall to Braves
Pedro Astacio closed out the 2002 season with yet another rough outing.
Astacio surrendered three home runs as the Braves defeated the Mets in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, 7-4.
The Mets' right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits and one walk over five innings.
In two starts against the Braves in September, Astacio went 0-2 with a 15.00 ERA.

Mets tie, then lose game in sixth
It took the Mets five innings to do anything offensively on Wednesday night.
After scoring three times on a pair of homers in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3, reliever Grant Roberts gave up a leadoff homer to Aramis Ramirez in the bottom of the inning to give the Pirates a 4-3 victory.

Mets let one slip away to Pirates
Steve Trachsel did all he could to get his record to .500, but he didn't get enough help from his friends. Trachsel blanked the Pirates for six innings and left with a one-run lead in the seventh, but the Mets pen yielded four runs in the eighth to hand a 6-3 victory to Pittsburgh in the opener of a three-game series.

Mets lose chance at winning record
Vladimir Guerrero belted his 38th home run of the season off Al Leiter and the Mets were unable to take advantage of the Expos pitching problems as the Expos went on to win, 5-1, in front of 36,730 fans at Shea Stadium on Sunday.

Mets deny alleged drug use
Mets general manager Steve Phillips vehemently denied a claim in a published report regarding alleged drug use on the team and throughout New York's minor league system.
He issued the strongly worded statement Friday afternoon at a Shea Stadium news conference.

Valentine hearing Friday
Mets manager Bobby Valentine will finally have his day before the baseball court Friday.
Valentine was suspended one game by Major League Baseball for his role in an Aug. 25 game against the Colorado Rockies.
In that game, Rockies' pitcher Kent Mercker hit Timo Perez and the Mets retaliated as David Weathers hit Juan Uribe after both benches had been warned.

Errors, homers down Mets
The Mets committed a season-high six errors as they dropped Friday night's game against the Expos, 11-8, at Olympic Stadium.
Despite Mo Vaughn's perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate including two home runs and a team total of 16 hits, the Mets were unable to overcome an 8-2 deficit that resulted from five unearned runs in the first four innings.

Mets celebrate Shea win at long last
For the first time in 34 days, the Mets finally celebrated a win at Shea Stadium.
New York's 11-5 win over Florida in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader snapped an NL-record 15-game home losing streak.
Pitcher Mike Bacsik helped his own cause with an RBI double and Mike Piazza cracked a three-run pinch-homer en route to the win.

Mets lose 15th straight at home
The flip side of the Oakland A's sustained excellence has been the Mets' futility at home.
New York's 3-2, 12-inning decision to Florida in the opener of Tuesday's twi-night doubleheader at Shea Stadium marked the Mets' 15th consecutive loss in Queens, setting the new standard for consecutive home losses in the NL.

Komiyama back with Mets
Satoru Komiyama admits that he's experienced more than his share of disappointments in this, his first season as a Major League Baseball player.
He's been demoted to Triple-A Norfolk, recalled and then demoted again.
But he is back with the Mets for the duration of the regular season. It remains to been seen how he performs.
